Studio Ceramics command high sums at Cheffins

By , 18th May 2016

A rare stoneware panel by the English sculptor and potter John Maltby (b.1936), signed and titled, ‘Hopscotch’ and dated 2006 made £4,000 at Cheffin’s Art & Design auction on May 12. This result is believed to be an auction record for a ceramic work by the artist.

Other highlights of Maltby’s work in the Studio Ceramics section of the sale included Seated Queen, signed and titled, which made £1,300. The same section also saw a Dame Lucie Rie (Austrian 1902-1995) rare dolomite glaze vase, rise to £4,200.
